These Toronto concerts will also help to financially support Regent Park School of Music.  $12.00 from each of 440 of the tickets will be donated to the school – for a total of $5,280.00. (Regent Park School of Music endeavours to make sure that as many kids as possible receive a music education by removing the financial obstacle.  This year, they are set to give 1,700 young people aged 3-18 a highly subsidized quality music education in Toronto.)

Tommy Emmanuel is, without question, the most trend-setting guitarist of out time.  Eric Clapton calls Tommy,“the greatest guitar player I’ve ever seen”.  Steve Vai says, “Watching him perform can be a study in artistic and virtuosic human achievement.  The first time I saw Tommy I was stunned into silence.”  Perhaps the most insightful quote comes from Chet Atkins“You can’t watch Tommy perform and not feel happy. I just love him.”

Tommy Emmanuel’s career has spanned over five decades.  A child prodigy, he began playing professionally at the age of six.  By the time he was a teenager, he was one of the most sought after studio musicians in the business.  He has worked with Sir George MartinStevie WonderEric ClaptonAir SupplyMen at Work,Michael BoltonOlivia Newton-JohnBill WymanChet AtkinsJerry ReedJames BurtonJohn Denver,Albert LeeRobben FordLarry CarltonJoe WalshRoberta FlackThe Chieftains and many more.

His own recordings have garnered two Grammy Nominationsfour platinum albums and three gold albums.  He has also been the recipient of many honours and awards. A few highlights are:

  • 2011 Global Country Artist Award – Country Music Association (CMA)
  • Order of Australia Medal – Australia’s highest non-military honor
  • Guitar Player Magazine “Legend” Award – It’s only been given to Les Paul, Larry Carlton and Chet Atkins to date
  • Best Guitarist – Rolling Stone Magazine
  • Honorary Doctor of Arts from Charles Sturt University in Australia
  • Sydney 2000 Olympics – Chosen to perform for the closing ceremonies

Tommy himself remains humble and dedicated to the true purpose of music, saying, “I’ve spent all my life from the age of 4 playing music and entertaining people, I never wanted to do anything else. Music brings people together.”

Tommy Emmanuel in concert is a truly unique and exciting experience.  He draws his listeners into a vortex of happiness from they are content never to escape.  Richard McFalls – of the Cactus Cafe Show Review in Austin, Texas – gives this advice, “Run, do not walk, to a Tommy Emmanuel concert near you. True happiness is in tragically short supply right now, all over the world, but you will definitely find it here.”
